It is the process of replanting the torn hymen. It is not a mandatory procedure in terms of body health or beauty. However, it is a hymen repair operation that is socially needed from time to time.
What is the hymen?
It is a thin piece of meat located at the entrance of the vagina. The hymen, whose Latin name is Hymen, is seen as a symbol of virginity in most cultures.
The hymen is a semi-flexible, thin structure located just at the entrance of the vagina, with a small hole in the middle, most commonly seen, for the flow of menstrual blood and vaginal secretions. Anatomically and physiologically, the hymen has no known function. Although it is thought to have a protective function against genital tract infections, it is a matter of debate how a structure with a hole in the middle can be protective against infections. In fact, the reason why infections occur less frequently in virgins is that these girls have not been exposed to sexually transmitted diseases.
Can the hymen differ structurally?
Hymen are classified in large numbers according to their shape, elasticity and the characteristics of their holes. Annular (ring-shaped) hymen is the most common.
In some cases, the hole in the middle of the membrane is so large that the membrane is almost nonexistent on examination. In very rare cases, there is no hole in the membrane (Imperforated hymen). In this case, menstrual bleeding cannot flow out from the first menstruation and accumulates in the genital canal. Since the semilunare (half-moon shape) is not too thick from the outside to the inside, it usually does not tear during intercourse. But birth is also torn. Surgical intervention may be required because the carnous (meaty, thick) hymen is very difficult to tear with intercourse or because the bleeding rate after tearing is high. The hymen can survive in the form of postpartum remnants.
Can you know when it has been torn?
Membrane rupture can be detected within 7 to 10 days. However, if a longer time has passed than this, it is not possible to predict which membrane has ruptured.
Can the torn membrane heal and close again?
The ruptured membrane can never heal and close as before.
Operation Process
Is it possible to sew the hymen? Repair of the hymen is possible. As long as the pieces of the hymen are not lost, it is possible to repair the membrane whenever the membrane is torn. If the person has had many sexual intercourse and has given birth many times, it will not be possible to find the remnants of the hymen and therefore cannot be repaired. It is not understood by the opposite party that the hymen is sewn. But specialist doctors can understand this.
How is the hymen repair done? How much will it take? The patient may want to have surgery under general anesthesia, since it is a heavy procedure with a psychological dimension for the patient. But it is a 30-minute procedure that can also be performed with local anesthesia.
After Operation
When can I return to daily life? What should be considered after the operation? After the procedure, the patient can continue his normal life after some rest. It is appropriate to use pads for only 2 days. You can take a shower on the same day. It is enough not to touch the operation area and to pay attention to toilet cleaning. Can a hymen that has been repaired once, be sutured again if necessary? If the hymen pieces remain in place, they can be repaired again.
How long before intercourse should the hymen be sutured? During your hymen examination, the time for repair is decided. This period may be 2 days ago, or it may be 2 months ago.
