Gynecomastia is the growth of the female type in the breast tissue in men. Breast augmentation in men isn’t always a sign of illness. The most common cause of gynecomastia is an unknown cause or obesity. It can also occur under the influence of certain drugs or as a result of hormonal changes.

Gynecomastia most commonly occurs in teenagers or older men due to hormonal changes. In addition, these patients should be evaluated for other conditions that may lead to gynecomastia. The lack of self-confidence caused by gynecomastia, which is the problem of nearly 40% of men, becomes a serious problem from time to time. Gynecomastia surgery is the most effective way to solve this problem. There are three types of gynecomastia: real breast tissue in the glandular type, adipose tissue increase in the lipomatous type, and in the mixed (mixed) type, both breast tissue and adipose tissue increase. The treatment varies depending on the type of gynecomastia. Before the operation, an ultrasound is used to determine whether the mass consists only of fatty tissue.

Age Limit

Since gynecomastia symptoms in adolescence can be traced back to hormonal changes during this period, a surgical intervention should be waited for at least 2 years. Gynecomastia that does not resolve within 2 years of puberty is suitable for surgery.

In older patients who are no longer in the puberty phase, it is sufficient to wait 1 year after the occurrence of gynecomastia for the procedure.
