Deterioration of skin thickness and flexibility is inevitable due to aging, weight gain and loss. As the age increases, the structure and shape of the elastic and collagen fibers in the body deteriorate and the subcutaneous fat layer shrinks. As a result, loosening and sagging occur in body tissues. If these sagging occur in the arm area, it can be corrected with arm stretching.,
Stretching surgeries performed to correct body deformities due to sagging are highly demanded surgeries. The most important reason underlying this is that patients do not want to stay in a bad condition for life and the successful results obtained with aesthetic surgery. In body contour correction surgeries, all regions should be evaluated as a whole and attention should be paid to the proportions between the regions. Otherwise, the result obtained will not be satisfactory.
Assessment Before Arm Lift Surgery
Due to aging, intermittent weight loss and gravity, sagging and cracks occur in the back and inner parts of the arm. The amount of adipose tissue accumulated with sagging shows individual differences. Therefore, each patient should be evaluated individually. Arm lift surgery (Brachioplasty) can be performed alone or in combination with other stretching operations such as tummy tuck, breast reduction or breast lift, leg stretching and liposuction. When arm lift surgery is combined with liposuction, much better results can be obtained. In this way, both the subcutaneous adipose tissue is thinned more and more skin can be removed.
Where Scars Occur After Arm Lift Surgery
In the preoperative evaluation, attention is paid to the amount of adipose tissue in the inner and back of the arm and the degree of sagging. In addition, the patient is given detailed information about the scar that will develop after the surgery and its location. The scar remains on the inside of the arm and near the armpit in arm lift surgeries. These areas are the least visible places when viewed from the outside. Sometimes, in cases where there is not much sagging, the scars may be limited to the armpit area only.
In cases where skin quality is good and there is no sagging, that is, only in cases where fat accumulation is high, liposuction is sufficient. However, if there is skin sagging with excess fat tissue, stretching surgery is absolutely necessary.
After Arm Lift Surgery
Arm lift can be performed under general anesthesia or sedation. The sagging skin and excess fat tissue from the inner and back of the arm are excised. In the same surgery, liposuction is also performed on other parts of the arm, if necessary. The incision site is sutured in two layers, and at the end of the operation, the arm is wrapped with a soft dressing. Patients return to their daily activities after 4-5 days, and the stitches heal after about 10 days. After arm stretching, a corset should be worn for 1 month. In this way, both swelling will occur less and the skin will adhere to the underlying tissues and shrink. The surgical scar starts to fade after 1 month, and the clarity disappears after 1 year.
